Mr. Hughes was born May 31, 1926, in Charleston, a son of Eddie H. Hughes and Mary Watts Hughes. He attended The Citadel and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a certified life insurance underwriter and was president of Charleston Toastmasters.
Surviving are a son, Eddie H. Hughes III of Ravenel; a daughter, Phllis H. Robbins of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
