Patricia graduated from Jacksonville High School. She then went to Passavant School of Nursing to become a Registered Nurse. Patricia earned her Bachelor's degree in psychology at Sangamon State University and her Master's degree in Social Work at the University of Illinois in Champaign. She had retired from the State of Illinois at McFarland Mental Health Center as an RN supervisor. She was later employed as a social worker at Memorial Medical Center.
Patricia was an avid reader and shopper. She loved animals and even adopted a retired greyhound. She very much enjoyed her work and will be dearly missed by her coworkers.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Shannon; stepfather, Carl Maes; grandchild, Kory Gibbs; and aunt, Winnifred Zopf. She is survived by two sons, David M. Gibbs of Orlando, Fla., and Stuart Gibbs of Springfield; two daughters, Joanne (husband, Craig) Costello of Auburn and Dina Whetstone of Springfield; her mother, Dorothy Maes of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; brother, James (wife, Sylvia) Shannon of Brandywine, Md.; one niece; one nephew; and cousins.
Services were entrusted to Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home of Springfield, Illinois.
