Anthony became an orphan at the age of nine. He lived with his cousin Hannah Haight and her husband Isaac Thorn. Sometime in the 1740's Isaac and Hannah Thorn left Long Island and moved to what is now Dutchess County, New York. By 1769 history finds him in Clinton Township, Dutchess County, New York. He owned a considerable amount of land in Clinton and set aside 1/4 of an acre to be used as a cemetery where he, his wife, Sarah, and many descendants are buried. This is now known as Badgley Ground. He was a Captain with the Dutchess County Militia, Fourth Regiment, and was a Revolutionary War Veteran.
