William Booten Died Thursday
Many friends in this city were shocked this morning to learn of the death of William S. Booten, a well known resident of this city, which occurred yesterday afternoon shortly after five o'clock at his home on East Jefferson street, after a ten days illness which was the result of a fall while picking fruit from a cheery tree at his home.
Mr. Booten was rendered unconscious by the fall and since the accident failed to regain consciousness for more than a few minutes at a time. While no bones were broken it is supposed that Mr. Booten was injured inwardly and was greatly shocked.
Mr. Booten was born in Illinois, February 20, 1830, and while young moved with his family to Sigourney, Iowa. In early manhood he was married and after a few years his wife passed to the Great Beyond. Mr. Booten was married again and his aged wife survives him. Two children by his former marriage, a daughter in Canada, and a son in Fort Scott, Kansas, are also left with a step-son of Amorillia, Texas. A niece Mrs. Nancy Adams of Chicago has been here for the past week assisting to care for him.
Mr. Booten was a member of Company D, 13th Iowa Infantry, during the civil war and was wounded July 2, 1864, so badly that hew was later discharged on account of the wound. He was a member of George Strong Post, G.A.R. of this city. It is probable that the funeral will be held Sunday, although no definite arrangements will be made until after the arrival of the son and stepson tonight.

W.S. Booten Funeral Held Yesterday
The funeral of William S. Booten was held yesterday afternoon at their residence on East Jefferson street, the service being held at two o'clock by Mrs. Sipes of the Adventist church, of which Mr. Booten was a member. The members of George Strong Post, G.A.R. attended the funeral in a body. The interment took place in Evergreen cemetery. The aged wife was unable to accompany the remains to the cemetery.

The other child born to William and Olive was Fanny (Fannie/Fanney) Booton born Oct 1, 1856 in Keokuk County, Iowa and on October 11, 1874 in Sigourney, Keokuk, Iowa married Jacob Swailes/Swails.
