He was the son of Thomas J. and Lydia E. (McFatridge) Ball. After completion of training at Six Telegraph School he was employed by the C H & D Railroad, March 7, 1907 and was stationed in Connersville. He retired September 16, 1946 from the B & O Railroad with which he had been a ticket agent and telegraph operator. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen.
He was survived by a brother, Thomas Fletcher Ball, a brother-in-law, Jasper Young and three nephews. His wife, the former Gertrude Young, whom he married December 29, 1908, died January 29, 1945.
He may have been named for George Elphonzo Cox. His father, Thomas J. Ball lived and worked on the Cox farm in Howes Valley, Hardin County, Kentucky. George Cox was about Thomas' age and died at the age of 24 in Feb. 1875, a short time before he came to Indiana.
