Frank L. Carpenter, 84, of Rushville, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008 at the Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.

Born Nov. 13, 1923 in Rush County, he was the son of Frank and Ethel (Patterson) Carpenter, both deceased. He married Kathryn Zobel June 26, 1946; she survives.

Mr. Carpenter was a 1943 graduate of Waldron High School. A World War II veteran, he served with the Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. He was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #150. He had worked as a mechanic at Martz Motors, Siebert Olds and Busard Olds.

Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons, Gerry Carpenter (and wife Sharon) of Edinburgh, Nick Carpenter (and wife Dawne) of Tampa, Fla., and Frank Carpenter of Greenwood; two daughters, Janet (Mrs. Duane) Barker of Elizabethtown and Gina (Mrs. Chuck) Jenkins of Rushville; three sisters, Mary Louise McColley of Shelbyville, Lavinnia (Mrs. Joel) Bayless of Fairland and Frankie (Mrs. Jon) Webster of Manilla; one brother, Bill Carpenter (and wife Pat) of Knoxville, Tenn.; one daughter-in-law, Lisa Carpenter of Rushville; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one step grandchild.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wallace and John Carpenter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Rushville with the Rev. William Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville's Calvary Cemetery and will include a graveside military service. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Todd Funeral Home in Rushville.

Mr. Carpenter had been an auto mechanic working at Martz Motors, Siebert Olds and Busard Olds.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving from Feb. 9, 1943, to Feb. 19, 1946, and attained the rank of private first class.

Mr. Carpenter graduated from Waldron High School in 1943.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 150, where he was a past commander.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Todd Funeral Home, 805 N. Main St. in Rushville. The rosary will be recited in a private family service.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 502 N. Perkins St. in Rushville, with the Rev. William Turner officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military honors.

Frank L. Carpenter, 84, of Rushville died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at Hospice of South Central Indiana.

A 1943 graduate of Waldron High School, Mr. Carpenter served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, from Feb. 9, 1943, until Feb. 19, 1946, attaining the rank of PFC. He had been an auto mechanic at Martz Motors, Siebert Olds and Busard Olds.

He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 150.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 502 N. Perkins St., Rushville, with the Rev. William Turner officiating. Military honors and burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Todd Funeral Home, 805 N. Main St. in Rushville. There will be a private family Rosary service.
