Mary Merrell-Kimbell was born Sept. 27, 1914, in Plainview to J.I. "Doc" Merrell and Ethel Eden-Merrell. She was raised in Quitaque then moved to Plainview where she was a longtime resident and member of Parkview Baptist Church. She was employed by Ragland's Western Wear in the 1950s and '60s. Merlyn, her only child, relocated her to California with him in 1998 when the effects of Alzheimer's disease began to take hold. She eventually had to be placed in the Country Villa La Hacienda Healthcare Center in San Bernardino where she died eight years later. Her parents; her sisters, Ann Merrell-Wychoff and Othell Merrell-Peacock; and a brother, Eldon Merrell, are deceased. Her husband, Eugene Kimbell, died Sept. 13, 1985, in Plainview.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Merlyn and Yvonne Kimbell; one granddaughter, Stephanie Kimbell-Burgess; one grandson Brent Kimbell; a sister, Genevieve Merrell-Hood of Montrose, Colo.; and four great-grandchildren, Amanda, Julia, Ian and Liam.
