"Volucia" was a school teacher, never married. Taught school at The Kinsman Academy In Kinsman, Ohio then at The Lagrange Collegiate Institute in Ontario, Indiana for two terms starting in 1842-43. Then in the house of George Wolcott at Wolcott Mills (now Wolcottville), Indiana; she being the first teacher of what was the newly established Female Seminary at Wolcottville. She died at the home of George and Margaret Wolcott in Wolcottville, Indiana. She was a first cousin of the abolitionist, John Brown.

Volucia Brown died Sept. 14, 1850. Aged 41 yrs.

I originally found this stone lying face up on the ground. It has since been restored to ,it's upright position. My thanks to who ever did the restoration .
