Asher's obit in Gallatin Democrat, 6-05-1902, p.7 states he was born in Franklin Co., PA 11-09-1824, moved to OH age 8, moved to Marshall Co., IL age 20 (1844), went to CA in 1850 for 4 years, returned to IL, then in 1866 moved to MO, and at time of death he was one of two surviving siblings, one living in Streator, IL.

He married 10-07-1869 to Adaline Mason at the home of minister J.F. Helm. He had a brother, Wm Jackson, who lived in Cameron, MO.
