"Death of Mr. John L. Grant"

At 3:25 o'clock a.m., Saturday, January 14, 1905, Mr. John Lafayette Grant died of paralysis, aged 80 years and 5 months, at his residence at West End Beach. He has always been respected for his kind disposition and generous hospitality. He was a son of Captain John Grant, who was the originator and owner of Grant's Pass, an artificial channel to connect the city of Mobile with the Gulf.
.....Interment was in Grant cemetery. Deceased is survived by four sons and three daughters, Mr. Robert Grant, Mr. Richard Grant and John Grant, of Pascagoula, Mr Eddie Grant and Mrs. Elvin Maxwell, of Birmingham; Mrs. Octavia Cole and Mrs. William Manto, of Pascagoula.
