Freeland---United States America Belcher Freeland, wife of James Perry Freeland, was born December 31, 1837, in Clay county, Missouri, and departed this life January 3, 1916, at the of 78 years and three days. At the age of 16 years she united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church of Clay county, Missouri. She was married to James Perry Freeland, April 30, 1857, in Buchanon county, Missouri, living in Missouri until the spring of 1857, when they moved to Kansas where they settled on the home place where she resided until her death. To this union were born six children, five sons and one daughter: Jasper Paine; Mary M., wife of Oliver Gechter; and William James, deceased. Survived by John T. of Horton, Kansas; James W. of Atchison county; and Matthew U. who resides near the old home place; two sisters: Angeline Gerkin of Agency, Missouri; and Margaret Cook of St. Joseph, Missouri; 20 granchildren and five great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by Rev. A.E. Wardner of the Presbyterian church of Hiawatha, Kansas, assisted by Rev. T.U. Hubble of the Christian church of Everest, Kansas, Wednesday morning at the home, and interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
