My mother never knew her father, Frank Bailey. He left the family when she was only a year and some months, after Mom's sister Doris died (at age 6) in 1919. My grandmother divorced him in 1922.

Whether he left of his own accord, or was asked to leave by my grandmother and the family, we will never know. He had three children from a prior marriage to Anna J. Callahan: Mildred, Hazel and Elsie. After leaving my grandmother, he married a woman in Kalamazoo, named Irmah, but never had any more children that we know of.

This picture is the only one we have of him. My grandmother removed and destroyed all other pictures of him in the family collection. Later communication with a member of the Bailey family from Springwater, NY turned up a few photos of large family gatherings, but it would take a forensic expert to match the picture we have with the many small family faces in the reunion photos.
