Mr. William Ballard's great-grandson, Stephen Ballard, kindly provided the following corrections and additional information for Mr. Ballard's memorial.

Although Mr. Ballard's marker reflects a birth date of 1876, he was actually born in 1862.

According to his obituary, Mr. Ballard graduated high school in 1879.

William opened an account at the US Freedman Bank on September 03, 1872, when he was 9 years of age.

According to the US Freedman Bank records, William's parents were Dowan Ballard and Matilda Bartlett.

It has been reported in several biographical dictionaires that Mr. Ballard often was less than truthful regarding his age as he moved forward in life. That trait was said by Stephen to be carried on by William Ballard's son, Edward H. Ballard, Stephen's grandfather.

I wish to kindly thank Mr. Stephen Ballard for providing this additional information for his great-grandfather's Find A Grave Memorial.
