Robert George Doyle, 65, of Woodlawn Drive, Torrington, CT died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 in Maine while vacationing with his family. He was the husband of Marcia (Murad) Doyle.

Born March 27, 1943 in Torrington, CT, he was the son of the late George W. and Carmela `Mollie` (Pagano) Doyle. He was employed by the Torrington Board of Education with the School Administration and as Principal of East School from where he retired during 2002. He attended St. Francis Parochial School and was a graduate of the Torrington High School Class of 1961. He received his undergraduate degree from Western Connecticut State University and his postgraduate degrees from Central and Southern Connecticut State Universities. A lifelong and respected educator in Torrington, he began his career at North School under Principal Bob Kelley. He was instrumental with the initiation of the Alternative School Program at Southeast School. He was appointed Vice Principal and later appointed Principal of the Vogel Middle School from where he was appointed Principal of East School until his retirement. He volunteered as a coach for youth baseball and was an Assistant Coach with the Police Athletic League. He was an avid supporter of the Arts, especially with music and drama programs with the Elementary and High School Students.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, collecting, gardening, and wood carving which was one of his hidden talents. He was a member of the Torrington Elks Lodge #372 and a member of the Northwest Hills Gun Club. He especially loved to spend time with his good friends and talking sports with his sons.

In addition to his beloved wife of 38 years Marcia, he is survived by two sons, Timothy Charles Doyle and daughter-in-law Sarah of Torrington, CT, Matthew George Doyle and his companion Rebecca Cohen of Brooklyn, NY; one brother George F. Doyle and sister-in-law Diana of Torrington, CT as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, JoAnn N. Doyle.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. from The LaPorta-Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 27, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The LaPorta-Cook Funeral Home.
