Lad Said to Have Lost Control of Bicycle - Funeral Services Tomorrow Afternoon
Little Cyrus Phelps, eight year old son of Colonel and Mrs. W. H. Phelps of 1152 Grand Avenue, died at 11:30 o'clock last night. He was internally injured when the bicycle upon which he was riding, was struck by a motor car at 5:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon.
The funeral services will be held at the home at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. They will be conducted by the Rev. Francis Enzweiler, of St. Ann's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.
Young Phelps and his boy companion, Tom Korn, son of Dr. and Mrs. A. L. Korn, were riding south on Grand Avenue, near the Phelps home, Saturday afternoon. Cyrus either became confused or lost control of his machine, and drifted into the path of the motor car, driven by Chauncey Bringle, of this city. The lad was hurled from his machine to the street.
The machine did not pass over his body, but it is thought a blow either from the fender of the motor car or from the handle-bar of the bicycle caused internal injuries. A gash was cut in his head and he was more or less severely bruised in various parts of the body.
Young Phelps was knocked unconscious, but soon revived and his injuries at that time were not considered dangerous. But he grew worse rapidly.
Dr. Harvey G. Mudd, a noted surgeon, head of St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis, was called by Colonel Phelps. But Cyrus was dead when the train bearing the St. Louis surgeon pulled into Pleasant Hill. Dr. Mudd was notified of the death and returned to St. Louis.
Colonel Phelps exonerates Chauncey Briggle, the driver of the automobile from all blame. Briggle says he was driving slowly at the time of the accident. He believes the boy lost control of his bicycle and became helpless to keep out of the motor car's path.

Little Victim of Saturday's Distressing Accident Laid to Rest in Park Cemetery
Funeral services for Cyrus Phelps, the little son of Colonel and Mrs. W. H. Phelps, who died Sunday night, were conducted at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at the Phelps' home at 1152 Grand Avenue. Father Francis Enzweiler, priest at the St. Ann's Catholic Church, conducted the rites, which were attended by a large number of people.
The following persons were pallbearers:

James Luke and
Allen McReynolds
A number of persons from out of Carthage attended the funeral.
Secretary of State Cornelius Roach of Jefferson City and Judge E. C. Crow of St. Louis, were present.
