Nellie was born to George Watt Hislop and Phoebe Caron Bingham Hislop. She married Myron Lorenzo Hacking on 6 September 1916 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had a son John Gordon Hacking, but before the second son Myron Lorenzo Hacking was born, her husband died 23 October 1918. She married Joseph Marion Allen on 31 March 1926. They had at least four more children: Howard R., Glen M., Helen, and Eloise Allen.
