"During the 1918 Flu epidemic John with his horse and buggy took the local doctor on his rounds to see patients in their farm homes. He contracted the flu in mid-November. His mother Ann Bangert came to his home to help care for him. She became ill with the flu and died before midnight on November 17th and her son John died the following morning November 18th.
Because of the virulency of the flu, their bodies were immediatly buried. Funeral services were held two days later. John's service was from the Catholic Church and John's Mother's service was held in the Lutheran Church."
