Center, Colo. resident Betty Ann Barela, 51, passed away Dec. 10, 2007 at San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center. Betty Ann was born Dec. 11, 1955 in Del Norte, Colo. the daughter of Andrew Barela and Marie V. Trujillo. Betty Ann enjoyed making blankets, fishing, hunting, and being with her loving family and especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include mother, Marie Barela of Center; two daughters Denessa (David) Quintana of and Andrea Barela (Daniel Garcia) both of Center; eight grandchildren Deyon Jaramillo, Xavier Medina, LeShon Quintana, Sean Quintana, Isaiah Quintana, Ciara Quintana, Hailey Garcia, and Kamryn Garcia all of Center; four sisters Linda Barela (Robert Maes) of Denver Colo, Vivian Herrera of Denver, Faye (Leroy) Arellano of Ft. Collins, Colo, and Natalie (Refugio) Ramos of Brighton, Colo; five brothers Freddie Barela (Bill Carson) of Center, Randy (Margie) Barela of San Antonio, Texas, Vince Barela of Monte Vista, Colo, Bobby Barela (Jim Nelson) of Denver, and Richard Barela of Center, as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Betty Ann was preceded in death by her father Andy Barela and son Shawn Barela.

A vigil service with Recitation of the Rosary was held on Fri., Dec. 14, 2007 at 7 pm at St. Joseph Church in Monte Vista. A memorial service was held on Sat, Dec. 15, 2007 at 10 am at St. Francis Jerome Church in Center. Interment followed at Monte Vista Cemetery in Monte Vista. Arrangements are in care of Romero Funeral Home of Monte Vista.
