LAKELAND -- Mr. Aquilla "Norris" Simmons of Lakeland died Monday (May 8, 2006) from complications after a fall. He was 70.
Born in Devereaux, Ga., he moved to Lakeland from South Floral Park, N.Y. in 1988. He was an Army veteran. He was retired superintendent for the New York City Transit Authority. He was a former highway superintendant for the Village of South Floral Park and a volunteer fireman. He was Methodist.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife, Sarah Simmons, S. Floral Park; sons, Anthony K. Simmons, Woodstock, Ga., Alan N. Simmons, S. Floral Park; daughters, Tonya Simmons Blackmore, Atlanta, Tara Simmons Walker, Marietta, Ga.; sisters, Eunice Simmons, Deveraux, Ga., Elnora Burton, Atlanta; brothers, Sterling Simmons, Deveraux, Harold Simmons, Milton Simmons, Dennis Simmons, all of Atlanta, John Simmons, Sparta, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
