Irving G. Betz, age 83, a long-time resident of New Jersey, died on May 21, 2008 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN following a year-long
battle with cancer.
He was born on June 28, 1924 in Gloucester, NJ. He served in the US Navy during World War II and graduated from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy as a Metallurgical Engineer. He was employed by the US Army at Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia and Picatinny Arsenal in Picatinny, NJ. He was a Life Member in both the American Welding Society and the American Society for Metals.
He married Betty Lee Wiley on June 28, 1952. They resided in Mount Holly, Cinnaminson, Highland Lakes, and the LeisureTowne section of Southampton, NJ over the years. He had served in the positions of Deacon, Elder, and Superintendent of Sunday School in their various churches. He was an active member of the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church until his illness forced their move to Minnesota.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty; a son,
Robert (Johanna) Betz of S. Paris, ME; two daughters, Kathie (Wayne) Mackey of Stockholm, NJ and Mary (Stephen) Ames of Rochester, MN; six grandchildren and one great grandchild and a sister, Claire (James) Boyd of Hot Springs, AK.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for family and friends at 11:00 on Tuesday, June 17 at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Southampton.
