Anderson, Hazel M. - (Lt. 3, Blk. 18, Sec. 3) Hazel M. Anderson, died June 15, 1987, at the Kearny County Hospital after a long illness. She was born September 6, 1899, the daughter of Noah and Mary Elizabeth Rogers in Toronto, KS. When she was seventeen the family moved to Kearny County. She attended high school at Syracuse for her senior year, completed training for teacher certification and taught for seven years. In 1923, she married Joe Jr. Anderson in Garden City, KS. They became the parents of five daughters. She was a member of the Christian Church, but was active as a member and teacher in the Menno Community Church for over fifty years. In addition, she was a member of the North Star School Board, a fifty year member of HDU, a 4-H leader and a good neighbor.
She was preceded in death by three sisters; Winifred and Essie Rogers and Leona Spencer; two brothers, Fred and Wayne Rogers; by a daughter, Neva Jo, and one granddaughter. Surviving are her husband, Joe, and four daughters, Lois Burkett of Topeka, Doris Harder of Salina, Twila Stone of Emporia and June Hovorka of Oklahoma City, and ten grandchildren.
The funeral was held at the First United Methodist Church in Lakin on Thursday, June 18, with the Rev. David E. Andrews, Ulysses, and the Rev. Nathan J. Morgan, officiating.
