She was a member of First Baptist Church of Maplewood where she taught Bible Study classes. She served the Louisiana Baptist Convention as an executive board member from 1996, and was a
member of the President's Club of Louisiana College. She served on
the Advisory Committee for the Baptist Student Union of McNeese
State University, and in various other positions and committees for the Carey Baptist Association (Southwest Louisiana).
Mrs. Carson died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, in Sulphur at the age of 59.
Survivors include her husband, Elton E. Carson; one son, Jay B.
Carson of Birmingham, Ala.; two brothers, James R. Prewitt of
Leesburg, Fla., and Wayne L. Prewitt of West Monroe; two sisters,
Bonnie L. Barnes of Beaumont, Texas, and Jinnie V. Johnson of
Bossier City; and her father, V.L. Prewitt of Chatham.
Funeral services for Mrs. Carson were held March 1, in Maplewood First Baptist Church, Sulphur, LA with the Revs. W.D. Carson, Bobby Taylor, Dick Bryageon and James M. Carson officiating. Services were under the direction of Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Elton and Clarene Carson Endowed
Scholarship Fund at Louisiana College in Pineville, LA.
