Alfred Minton was born in 1809 in South Carolina. He married Elizabeth McPeters in Lauderdale County, Alabama on January 12, 1832. They had one son. Robert Minton who was born in Alabama (1833-1904). Elizabeth died.

Alfred migrated to Austin County, Texas. In 1838, he married Jane K. Shelburne, daughter of John Pamplin Shelburne who led a migration from Lauderdale County, Alabama to Austin County, Texas.

On September 30, 1939, Alfred bought 435 ½ acres belonging to the estate of Stephen F. Austin. This is recorded in Austin County Deed Record Book Vol. B, page 333.

In 1842, Alfred Minton and his father-in-law, John P. Shelburne, went to San Antonio to aid the Republic of Texas Troops in repelling Mexican Gen. Woll's forces from the city. They were authorized a debt $15.75 for the service by the state of Texas in 1853.

Alfred and Jane Minton are listed on the 1850 census with Robert, Samuel, Merica and Virginia. They are listed following the families of Jane's father, John Pamplin Shelburne and 2 brothers, William and Samuel Shelburne.

On September 8, 1851, Alfred and Jane K. Minton sold 211 ½ acres of land to John P. Shelburne (Austin County Deed Book D/E, page 451-452, No. 370). This was a portion of the land Alfred purchased in 1839.

Alfred died intestate on October 26, 1852 in Austin County, Texas at the age of 43.

Jane K Minton's father, John Pamplin Shelburne was appointed administrator of the estate at her request in December 1852 (Austin County Succession Book F, p. 385).
