Rosalie E. Atkinson, 83 of Parkersburg, died March 20, 2004 at the St. Joseph Hospital. She was born in Wood County, WV and was the daughter of the late William Albert and Ida Mae Hose Hendershot.

Rosalie didn't have much growing up or while raising her children, but she gave her family so much more than material things. She loved the outdoors, raising vegetables for food when she was younger and just for enjoyment, as she got older. Rosalie passed her love of gardening and flowers onto her children and grandchildren. She would be know to spend hours on long walks with anywhere from 2 to 20 grandchildren and their mothers pointing out shrubs, trees and flowers. Rosalie was loved by many nephews, nieces and friends who always made a point of stopping by to get a hug and check on her. Rosalie will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Survivors include two daughters, Hazel Mae Buck of Parkersburg, Peggy L. Read of Davisville, five sons, Gilbert O. Atkinson of Parkersburg, Rick Atkinson of Parkersburg, Doug Atkinson of Columbus, Ohio, Tony Atkinson of Vincent, Ohio, Donald Atkinson of Parkersburg, forty one grandchildren, and twenty six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gilbert O. Atkinson, a son Charles Ray Buck, three sisters and six brothers.

Services will be on Tuesday at 1:00 PM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with her son-in-law Charlie Read officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashby Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8.
