He moved to Montgomery county at age 18 years with his mother, brother, and five sisters. In 1866 he married Nancy A. Wisehart. He was killed when the Vandalia train struck his buggy in January of 1903. He and Mr. Ben Gillilan were on their way into Darlington to attend the funeral of James Morton Mote. Both men died in the train accident. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge and served in the civil war, Co. B, 72nd Vol. Inf under Capt. W. P. Herron.
