His father, Dr, Charles William Beesly, was born in 1861, in Cambridgeshire England. His mother, Helene Spautz, was born in 1856 in Dusseldorf, Germany. She died in 1932 in New York City. They were the parents of Eugene Claude, Claire Aimee, Marie Antoinette, and Sidney Randolph Beesly. Claude served in France during World War I, where he was gassed, resulting in a gravelly voice. His obituary appeared as follows in the "Inyo Register" of Oct. 17, 1968: Graveside services will be held Friday afternoon for Claude Eugene Beesly, a native of France and longtime resident of Bishop, who died October 6 at Northern Inyo Hospital. He was 76. The Veterans of World War I will officiate at the services, which will be held at 1 p.m. at the Big Pine Cemetery. Mr. Beesly was born in France March 4, 1892. He had lived in California for 30 years, and in Bishop for 22 years. In his early years in Bishop he was employed by the City of Los Angeles, and later operated his own maintenance business. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Eaton Beesly, of Bishop.
