Henry was the son of Johann D. and Clara Altemeyer Honerkamp. He was a pioneer settler of Washington County, Texas. He was a member of the Lutheran church. In 1879, he married Maria Graeber. They came to the United States in 1887, settling in Pleasant Hill. They later moved to Welcome, and finally settled in New Wehdam. They lived here until they sold their farm and moved to Phillipsburg. They had eleven children. Two children preceded him in death. They other nine were: John, Fred, August, Otto, Lena, Caroline, Malinda, Matilda and Emma.
