Born to John and Jane Pickett of Butler County, Alabama, Melvina married Wm M Caldwell, also of Butler County. They had one daughter Mary Adelia. William returned from the war but suffered from a wound or illness. He died within weeks of his return. Melvina took her daughter and moved back to her father's. She stayed there until Mary married Jacob Holland and decided to head to Texas. She went with the couple and helped them raise their large family. She leaves behind her daughter, eight grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She was loved by many.
