DUMAS - Jessie Lea Brazell, 100, died Thursday, April 28, 2005.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Street Church of Christ with Art Lynch, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Brazell was born to Thomas and Ella Muse on Dec. 12, 1904, in Leon County, Texas. She was an LPN in Abilene for 20 years and was a 47-year resident of Moore County. She married Bert Brazell on Aug. 23, 1923. They had been married 59 years when Bert passed away on July 23, 1983. They were the parents of five sons, Leabert, Hobert, Tom, Billy Bob and Joy Lea. She was an active member of the Church of Christ wherever they lived, teaching Sunday school, ladies classes and vacation Bible school. She was a Rose Lady at Dumas Memorial Hospital and a Windmiller at the museum in Dumas for many years. She was a very happy person. With 34 spouses of descendants, the total living clan totals 165 people. She was given five years of loving care by a special caretaker, Valerie Chavez, the "daughter she never had..." so her sons now claim Valerie as "Little Sister."
She was preceded in death by her parents; all six of her siblings; her husband; and a son, Hobert.
Survivors include four sons, Leabert Brazell and wife, Billie, and Bob Brazell and wife, Jesslyn, all of Dumas, Tom Brazell and wife, Betty, of Cyril, Okla., and Joy Lea Brazell and wife, Lorene, of Albuquerque, N.M.; 22 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and 47 great-great-grandchildren.
