Kenneth Alvin Gronewold, 78, of 1701 Leonard St., Chillicothe died on Thursday, May 29, 2008, at 1:50 p.m. at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born Oct. 27, 1929, in Elmwood, the son of Alvin Frederick and Clara Caroline Wilhelmina Grafelman Gronewold. He married Norma M. Rummerfield on Nov. 4, 1950, in Peoria Heights. She survives.
Surviving are his children, Cynthia (Donald) Groman of Peoria Heights, Allan (Mary Anna) Gronewold of Sparland, Mark Gronewold of Chillicothe and Kyle (Laurie Rodrick) Gronewold of Streator; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen (Charles) Carroll of Chillicothe and Carol (Robert) Caldwell of Edelstein; and one brother, Wayne (Bernice) Gronewald of Dunlap.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one great-grandchild.
He was employed by Caterpillar Inc. for 38 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Chillicothe Fire Department, serving 40 years, retiring as captain.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 2, 2008, at 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Chillicothe. The Rev. Steven Mall will officiate. Visitation will be held at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial will be in the Chillicothe City Cemetery.
