Douglas Esselman age 91 of Waxahachie died Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at Baylor Medical Center Waxahachie. Douglas was born April 29, 1914 on Ross Street in Waxahachie to William Thomas and Mattie Throckmorton Esselman. Douglas lived all of his life in Waxahachie. He graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1932. He was preceeded in death by his parents William Thomas Esselman and Mattie Throckmorton Esselman and an infant son Curtis Lynn Esselman, brothers, Pete Esselman, Jack Esselman, and Travis Esselman. Also, a daughter-in-law, Martha Laird Esselman.

He along with his dad, Bill, began Esselman Electric Shop and served the community durning an era when electricity was being introduced to the home. Douglas was excused from service to take care of Ellis County's electrical needs in the cotton gin oil mill industry. He also took care of the electrical needs of W.C. Tennery Community Hospital. After World War II, his brothers and sister joined the business ad served Waxahachie over fifty years. Douglas was also a member of the Waxahachie IOOF Lodge #80 for over 50 years, longtime member of the Optimist Club and the First Baptist Church. Mr. Esselman loved his country and was very patriotic. He loved to deer and coon hunt.

He is survived by two special sisters Ruth Cox of Waxahachie, and Louise Griggs of Center. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Bert Esselman. He touched many lived throughout his 91 years, and will be remembered with a genuine appreciation for his humor and trickery.
