1st Lord Burghersh, of Burghhersh, Sussex, of Chiddingstone, Kent, of Haydor and Culverthorpe, Lincolnshire.
Son and heir to Reynold de Burghersh, born between 1252 and 1256. Husband of Maud, daughter of Guncelin de Badlesmere of Badlesmere, Justiciar of Kent. They had at least three sons:
Stephen de Burghersh, 2nd Baron Burghersh d 1310
Henry de Badlesmere, Bishop of Lincoln 1292-1340
Bartholomew de Burghersh, Baron Burghersh, husband of Elizabeth de Verdun.
Robert was summoned to Parliament 12 Nov 1303 to 13 July 1305, whereby he became Lord Burghersh. He held the office of Warden of the Cinque Ports between 1299 and 1306, and held the office of Constable of Dover Castle between 1299 and 1306.
