1870 census show John Q's and his Mother (Matilda) living in home of his sister Mary Scott in Tyler, Texas. The census shows him as a farmer and teacher.
1876 Court records pg 35, in Carthage for Panola County shows John Q was appointed to work on road near Gregory Graveyard, with L.A. Wittlesey (bro of Sarah). (In those days persons were appointed to work on roads instead of like now,(taxed and county does the work.)
1877 September 16, Marriage to Sarah Whittlesey in Tyler County, Texas.
1879 Court records, pg 526 show John Q was appointed election officer
1919 Sarah died and is buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Woodville, Tyler Co,Texas. Nine children were born to John Q. and Sarah. Some of those children will be listed below.
1924 Records show John Q. went to live in the Beauvoir Confederate Soldiers Home in Biloxi, Mississippi.
1927 August 7,John Quitman died and was buried in the Beauvoir Cemetery reserved for the occupants of the Beauvoir Confederate Home and VA Hospital there in Biloxi.
