Godfrey S. Rockefeller, chairman of the Cranston Print Works, a Rockefeller-owned textile company, died of leukemia Wednesday at Greenwich (Conn.) Hospital. The 83-year-old executive, whose grandfather, William Rockefeller, was a brother of John D. Rockefeller, was a resident of Greenwich.

Mr. Rockefeller had been associated with Cranston since 1946. He was previously a partner of Clark Dodge & Company, investment bankers. He was a member of the board of Freeport McMoran, a conglomerate, for 50 years.

He served in World War I as a second lieutenant in the field artillery and in World War II as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Air Force. Mr. Rockefeller graduated from Yale University in 1921.

He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Gratz; two sons, Godfrey A. of Gibson Island, Md., and Peter of Haddonfield, N.J.; two daughters, Marion R. Stone and Audrey R. Blair, both of Greenwich; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
