Mrs. Julia Ransom for many years a resident of Hermosa Beach and later Redondo Beach with a daughter, Mrs. Mary Richmond, passed away this week at the advanced age of 93 years. She organized the first Parent-Teacher Association in the South Bay and was an accomplished artist, being honored at a recent meeting of the Woman's Club of Redondo Beach for her work.
Mrs. Ransom traveled from Texas to California in 1868 and is the last of the Yarnell Wagon Train pioneers to make the journey. Except for a few years spent in Tombstone, Ariz., where she met her late husband Horace Ransom engaged in mining, she has lived in California.
She was graduated from Los Angeles high school and is survived by a son, John H. Ransom; the daughter, who now lives in Hollywood Riviera, nine grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday noon in L.A. at Utter McKinley, 3719 Slauson Ave.
