The 1850 federal census reports Cornelius (15) living with his parents Samuel and Mary Von Dorsten (it was spelled wrong by the census taker) and his older brother Harmon who was 18 in Chester, Wayne, OHIO.
The 1860 census shows Cornelius now living still in Ohio with his brother Harmon and his wife Susan ( Flory) Vandorsten and their 4 month old daughter Minerva C. Vandorsten.
It is later revealed in an 1870 census in searching for our ancestors that Cornelius and Harmon's parents had moved to Lockport, St. Joseph, Michigan. There graves were found with their son Cornelius. It is noted his parents had other children that they moved next too when they left Ohio. There son Harmon moved his family to the Newbury, LaGrange, Indiana area.
They lived approximately an hour from each other by car in our estimation today but since horse was the mode of transportation its unclear how much the family saw each other when they went their separate ways. It is interesting to note that finding Cornelius with his parents was an incredible find as it linked generations together in this search.
