A Nelson man, Fredo Bergman, died last Thursday in Byron Memorial Hospital, Lincoln, at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 8 days.
The funeral was Monday at l0:30 a.m., from the Nelson Community Church of Christ. The Rev. Royce Buchtel officiated and burial was in the Nelson Cemetery.
The son of Fred and Anna Martens Bergman, he was born March 3, 1909, in Kahla, Germany. The family left Germany by ship when he was a year old and sailed to the United States where they made their home in Nuckolls County, Nebraska. He was educated in a rural school southwest of Nelson, known as Skunk Hollow.
Nov. 27, 1932, he was united in marriage to Amber Larison at Mankato. This union was blessed with a son and a daughter.
They farmed west of Nelson and then later east of Nelson, later retiring and moving into Nelson. Before that time he had lived in Concordia for six years. He was a member of the Nelson Independent Order of Odd Fellows and past member of Elk Creek Country Club.
Bergman drove a school bus for 25 years. He was also the custodian at the city auditorium, post office and Elk Creek Manor, and was a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Amber, on Sept. 23, l977.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Gordon Meyer (Sharon), Nelson; son, Robert Bergman, O'Neill; sister, Mrs. Charles Patton (Marianne), Mesa, Ariz; six grandchildren , Mrs. Greg Choquette (Tammy) , Mrs. Dale Kathman (Darcy), Chris Meyer, Greg Bergman, Cathina Bergman and Danny Bergman; four great grandchildren, Joe Kathman, , Jeff Kathman, Sammy Choquette and Mitch Choquette; and many other relatives.

He loved all kinds of sports, enjoyed watching sports on T.V. He especially enjoyed the Nelson school sports of basketball and football. He enjoyed watching baseball, playing cards and was very proud of his flower and vegetable gardens.
Music was provided by Troy Gilmore and Greg Bergman singing duets of "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace" with Myrtle Worley as organist and accompanist.
Casketbearers were Ward Chapman, Paul Statz, Kenneth Hamel, Earl Adamson, Dale Adamson, and Roger Williams.
