His parents were married on September 21, 1788 in Putney, Vermont. The marriage of Comforts parents was recorded in Vital Records of Putney to the Year 1900 Marriages and Marriage Intentions by Ken Stevens.

It states the following, p. 190:
Obediah Joy Jr. and Content Hovey, both of P.l, int. Sept. 21, 1788.

Comfort Joy was married twice. His first wife was Martha "Patty" Redway/Radway. His second wife was Harriet Archer. There is no record of the second marriage, but proof that the marriage existed is in the probate record for Comfort wherein she applies for and receives the downer for herself and for her daughter, Harriet Marie/Hattie/Hattie Marie as she was variously known throughout her life.

Horace Black, husband of Betsey Joy, was the administrator of the Estate of Comfort Joy. Betsey Joy was the eldest daughter of Comfort Joy and his first wife, Patty (Radway) Joy. Had Harriet (Archer) Joy not been married to Comfort, she would not be named in the Probate Estate of Comfort Joy, deceased.

Harriet (Archer) Joy age 20, appears in the 1850 census with Comfort age 61 and Marie age 2. Harriet (Archer) Joy, after the death of Comfort, and after she receives her dower, moves to Westminster, Windham, Vermont and dies in the same year as Comfort. Her death is recorded as Harriet Joy, in the town records, but her burial location is unknown. The cause of her death remains a mystery as the town record did not record the cause, just her name and the date.
