Rosamond Joan Hale, b. Feb. 12, 1822 in Elk Creek, Grayson County, VA. and d. Dec. 19, 1912 in Azusa, Los Angeles County, CA.

On Oct. 20, 1858, Jane Caleb King and Martha Jane "Mattie" Dougherty were married in Greenville, Hunt County, TX.

John & Mattie King's children were:

MRS. J. C. KING SUMMONED BY DEATH
Pioneer and Well Known Here; Funeral Takes Place Wednesday
Mrs. John C. King, for many years a resident of San Bernardino and known to scores of the older residents of this city, died yesterday at her home, 205 North Flower street, Los Angeles, after a long illness.
The funeral will occur in this city tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at Stephens & Son's chapel, the body being brought here for burial. The pall bearers will be C. W. Monahan, A. G. Kendall, John Flagg, I. H. Curtis, Thomas Haddon and J. S. Bright.
Mrs. King was 73 years of age and for the past few years has been making her home in Los Angeles where a son, Alma L. King, resides.
Mrs. King was the widow of the late John C. King, who died a number of years ago. The family came across the plains in an ox team in 1868, coming from Texas to San Bernardino.
Prominent Pioneer.
In the early days John C. King was a deputy sheriff in this county and later became the head of the detective service of the Santa Fe in this section. He was the first officer to introduce bloodhounds after criminals in this state. The family also conducted the old King house on E street, which was a favorite stopping place for many in the early days.
Mrs. King has been in failing health for many months and the end has been near for some time. Many friends here will be grieved to know of the death of the sturdy old pioneer woman. One by one they are passing away, and only their memories and deeds remain.
