Originally buried near New Hope Church in a group of 6 bodies (McGaw, Sawyer, McIntyre, Hathaway, O'brine, Valence) 100yds NW of Leveretts Mill.

"...May 31st Lieutenant John W. Berry, having his company, K, deployed as skirmishers, in an attempt to gain a hill which was abandoned without a fight on the morning of the 27th, at Pumpkinvine Creek, lost six (6) men killed, and two (2) wounded. This little dash gave us the crest of a hill which commanded the position of the enemy in our front, which position was held by this regiment until the enemy withdrew."

Co K Roster lists KIA on May 31: 1st Sgt Alpheus C. McIntyre, James Forrest, Isaac M. Hathaway, George Myers, William J. O'Brien, and Henry Valence. Found Forrest listed in VA as "Rest".

His widow, Nancy J. Stevens Hathaway, received a Widow's pension. She was born about 1825 and a resident of Wood County, Ohio. Post Office: Scotch Ridge. Five children were mentioned in the file and those under the age of 16 received Minor's pensions.

Isaac was the son of Daniel and Mary "Polly" Merricks Hathaway of Massachusetts. He came to Wood County and settled in Montgomery Township with his parents when he was 18. He married Nancy Stevens on 12 January 1846 in Wood County, and they had six children: Samuel, James, John, Mary(DY), Elizabeth(Nichols), and Lasetta(Hibbs). There is a memorial on his wife's stone in Webster Township Cemetery.
