Jane Rice Broome, 79, long time resident of Colorado Springs passed away on May 1, 2008 in Astoria, Oregon. Jane was born March 31, 1929 in Colorado Springs to Campbell and Harriet (Brady) Rice. She was the granddaughter of Dr. Emory John Brady, who in 1923 established E.J. Brady Hospital in Colorado Springs, known now as Cedar Springs. Mrs. Broome was a graduate of Colorado Springs High School and University of Colorado School of Nursing. She was married in 1952 to Joe L. Broome, who preceded her in death in 1989. Before concentrating on raising a family, she practiced nursing in hospitals in both North Carolina and Colorado. Mrs. Broome relocated to Seaside, Oregon in 2004. She is survived by a daughter, Susan (Craig) Beeman of Seaside, Oregon; son, Stephen (Tracie) Broome; and son, James (Gina) Broome of Colorado Springs. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Kelli (James) Irwin, Stephen Beeman and Christopher (Jennifer) Beeman all of Warrenton, Oregon; Chelsea, Michael, Rachel, and Hannah Jane Broome all of Colorado Springs and 9 great-grandchildren. Private family services were held at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Entombment is at the Shrine of Remembrance Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Broome's memory to the American Diabetes Association.
