Camp

Celebration of the life of Emory C. Camp, 69, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale.

He was born April 8, 1939, in Cameron to Emory B. and Essie McCall Camp.

Mr. Camp graduated Yoe High School in Cameron in 1957 and the University of Texas in 1962.

He was licensed to practice law in September 1965 and joined the Camp family law practice that same year.

Emory and Connie Herbert, his beloved wife of 45 years, were married on Dec. 28, 1962. Together they raised three children.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Camp served on numerous local boards of directors including serving as president of the Rockdale ISD Board of Education for over 16 years. During this time, he was instrumental in the vision and construction of Rockdale Junior High School.

As president and chairman of the board of directors of the Rockdale Hospital Authority, Mr. Camp chaired efforts to secure funding to create Richards Memorial Hospital. For years he remained dedicated in service to the hospital and the medical services it provided Rockdale residents.

Mr. Camp served on the board of directors for both Rockdale State Bank and Citizens National Bank. He was on the boards of the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, Rockdale Country Club, the Southern Milam County United Way and Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library.

Mr. Camp was a member of the State Bar of Texas and Milam County Bar Association. In addition, he was an active member of the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department from 1965-75 and was an honorary lifetime member.

In 1987, Mr. Camp was honored as Outstanding Citizen by the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors are his wife, Connie; daughter and son-in-law Kelley and Kyle McBee of Rockwall; daughter and son-in-law Kim and Greg Wright of Longview; son and daughter-in-law Emory D. and Kristen Camp of Dallas; his grandchildren, Katherine and Payden McBee, Jordan and Meredith Wright, Emory E., Ashley and Kaitlyn Camp; a sister, Kay Johnston of Knoxville, TN; and a brother, James Camp of Cameron.

Visitation was scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home.

Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library in Rockdale.

Emory C. Camp, 69, of Longview died, May 5 in Longview. Memorial services were held today at 2:00 p.m. at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale.

Camp was born on April 8, 1939 in Cameron to Emory B and Essie McCall Camp. He was an attorney for over 40 years and a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Milam County Bar Association. He graduated from C. H. Yoe high School in 1957 and then graduated from the University of Texas in 1962. He married Connie Herbert on Dec. 28, 1962. He served as president of Rockdale ISD Board of Education for over 16 years. He was president and chairman of the board of Rockdale hospital authority and he also served on the board of directors of Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, Country Club, South Milam County United Way and the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library. He was an active member of the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Dept. from 1965 to 1975 and was an honorary lifetime member. In 1987 he was honored as outstanding citizen by the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.
