Lifelong Alaskan Maude Wesley Blatchford, 61, died July 13, 1996, at her Anchorage home. A funeral was held at First Evangelical Covenant Church, 1145 C St., with visitation. Father Nathan Toots officiated with Pastor Philip Axelson assisting. Burial at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery followed the service. Pallbearers included Charlie Herman, Bill O'Brien, Gary Teogue, Jack Williams Jr., Melvin Otton and Leon Fuller. Honorary pallbearers were Fred Weston Jr., Edward Weston, Emma Evon, Randy Weston, Maggie Olson and Carl Takak.
Mrs. Blatchford was born Dec. 18, 1934, in Mekoryuk and had attended school at Fortuna Ledge.She also had lived in Koyuk, Scammon Bay, Wales, Golovin, Nome and Bethel, before moving to Anchorage in 1992. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Alaska and enjoyed basket weaving, sewing and being a homemaker. Her family said, ''Maude was a loving mother, wife, aunt and friend to all people. She relied greatly on the Lord, which was evidenced by her ever- ready prayers on a moment's notice.''
Mrs. Blatchford is survived by her husband, Percy, of Anchorage; daughters, Ethel Fuller of Harbor City, Calif., Rosemary Otton of Koyuk, Selma Williams of Mekoryuk, LauriO'Brien of Bethel, Sarah M. Weston of Mekoryuk, Arlene Lawton of Langlois, Okla., Nancy Edwards of Mekoryuk, Laura Kenick of Bethel; sons, Sarren Fred Weston Jr. of Koyuk, Edward L. Weston of Koyuk, Miller Weston of El Reno, Okla., Samson Weston of Mekoryuk, Roy Kenick of Bethel; brothers, Harry Wesley and Larry Float of Mekoryuk; sister, Carrie Herman of Anchorage; 21 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one more on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial bequests may be sent to the Maude Blatchford Memorial Fund, c/o any branch of the National Bank of Alaska. Arrangements by Evergreen Memorial Chapel, downtown.
