Mr. Coan was born December 12, 1948, in Champaign, the son of Thomas Blakely Sr. and Elizabeth Ann (Kessler) Coan. He married Linda Kocher on April 17, 2008. She survives.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran for 20 years, attaining the rank of CW04, and had served as a drill instructor. He served in Desert Storm and was a correctional officer in Robinson and Lawrenceville, where he served as a Major. He was currently serving as a Richland County Correctional Officer. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed family and friends. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Coan is survived by his wife, Linda Coan; mother, Elizabeth Ann Coan; son, Thomas Blakely Coan III; sister, Cindy Huckel; brothers, Glenn, Charlie, Joseph Coan, and Daniel Coan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation was at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney and at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin.
Funeral services were held at the church with Rev. Father David Braun officiating.
Burial with full military rites was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Wendelin.
