Colonel P. W. Alexander died at his residence in Marietta on Thursday night. He had been a prominent figure in the public affairs of Georgia for more than thirty years. Soon after his admission to the bar he strayed into journalism, and was first the associate and then the leading editor of the great organ of the Whig party in Georgia, The Savannah Republican.

He served as a member of the Succession Convention of Georgia, and was, during the war, the most noted correspondent in the Army of Northern Virginia. After the war he practiced law with the ex-Governor Smith and was the private secretary of that gentleman during his incumbency of the gubernatorial office.
