Laura Alice Marker was born on 22 March 1880, to Francis Marion and Margaret "Maggie" Bever Marker, in Montpelier, Blackford County, Indiana. She married James Henry Alberson on 8 July 1897 in Wells County, Indiana. There were fifteen children born of this union, all deceased expect one (2008). When her sister, Mary Leticia Marker Smith died leaving a daughter, "Aunt Alice" took in Lucinda Opal Smith and raise her as her own.

The family moved from Indiana to Essex, Missouri prior to the 1910 census. They would later return to Indiana, but returned to Missouri where they remained until their death.

The children born of this union were Pearl (Goode), George, Hattie (Lawson), Minnie (died as an infant), Della (Greenlee), Margaret Pauline (Leard), Joshua "Josh", Mary O. (Riddle), Rosetta (Mattingly), Beatrice (Reaves), James Henry "Jimmie," Buddy, Perry, Arnold H. "Hallie," and one living.
