James Curtis "J. C" Boss Sr was the son of Leonidus 'Lee' Wayne Boss and Mary 'Mollie' Elizabeth Winsett. (He is also seen as Jim Boss in many records.)

He was married to Mary Will Maroney Dec 31, 1911. They had 5 children who survived to adulthood.

He is listed in the 1910 census as married, and residing with his parents, but no spouse is in the household. I have not found an associated marriage record.

Foul Play Eyed as Paris Man Found Dead

Authorities are checking the possibilities of murder in the death of James Curtis Boss a 70 year old retired Paris night watchman who was found dead Saturday in a ditch southwest of Sherman.

Identification was made Monday by Boss' sons James Leon Boss of Paris and J. C. Boss of Sturgis, Oklahoma. An autopsy showed that Boss had been dead 14 to 16 hours when his body was found near a dirt road in some high weeds about 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon.

Sheriff Woody Blanton of Sherman was in Paris Monday afternoon checking with Sheriff Dan Dills on possible leads in the case. No arrests have been made nor any complaints filed at noon Tuesday.

Sheriff Dills said that Boss left Paris Friday afternoon at 5:01 ? ? for Bonham. Members of his family did not know his destination.

The autopsy failed to show the cause of death although bruises were evident about the face. Boss resided at 2631 Baltimore Street.

Boss was report to be carrying $20 to $30 in cash. Sheriff Woody Blanton said there was evidence of foul play since Boss' back pockets had been cut and his wallet was missing. Officers said $3.50 was left in his watch pocket and 20 cents change in a front pocket.

The funeral was set for 4 p.m. Tuesday at Fry-Gibbs chapel, conducted by Huber Roach, West Paris Church of Christ minister. Burial was arranged in Evergreen Cemetery, bearers being Aubrey Cunningham, Odis D. Braezel, A. J. McKaskle, H. P. Proffer, William Conder and E. L. McFadden.

Born in Lamar County September 14, 1889, J. C. Boss was a son of the late L. W. and Mary Elizabeth (Windston) Boss, and he married Miss Mary W. Maroney, December 31, 1911.

Besides his wife, survivors are these children: Mrs. William Cooper Steele, Mrs. W. R. McFadden, and James Leon Boss, all of Paris; and J. C. Boss, Jr., Hugo, Okla., 13 other descendants, and these sisters and brothers: Mrs. Ethel Haddock, Paris; Mrs. Ada Stone, Denison; Mrs. Jess Todd in California; Charley Boss, Ben Franklin and T. O. Boss, Kaufman.
