George was the son of John and Marie Amaro, immigrants from the Azores island of Terciera, husband to Dolores, father to Corey, Marty, Mathew, Mark and Zane. Grandfather to Chelsea, Sacha, Patti, Andy, Jack, Sam, Joe, Marie, Gina, Maci, George, Kate, Molly, and Warren. Brother to Ann and Sara and Uncle to many nephews and nieces.

GEORGE LUIS AMARO

George Luis Amaro died on April 29, 2008 in Chico. He was born on April 11, 1927 in Ferndale, CA. He was the son of John and Marie Amaro.

George attended Ferndale Union High School and served in the Navy during WWII. He returned to the family dairy in Ferndale and later relocated to Willows with his family to continue dairy farming in 1947. George married Delores Leonardo in 1956 in Willows and together continued dairy farming until they branched out into rice farming in the early Œ70's. George continued farming throughout his life until retirement. Other than family his life-long passion was motorcycling. His passion for motorcycling influenced many and those choosing to ride to his service will find secured parking. George was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Willows Pheasant Association and devoted parishioner of Saint Monica's Catholic Church.

George is survived by his loving wife, Dolores; daughter, Corey and Yann Amaro-Rolland-Benis of St. Zacharie, France; sons, Marty and Suzy Amaro of Chico, Mathew and Shelley Amaro, Mark and Diane Amaro, Zane and Joy Amaro, all of Willows. He will be missed by his 14 grandchildren and is survived also by sisters, Ann Corriea and Sara Cuccia and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brothers, John Amaro and Daniel Amaro and sisters, Marie Souza and Velma Belforte. The family wishes to thank his doctors, Dr. John Howard and Dr. Gerard Valcarenghi and all the devoted nurses at Enloe Hospital who cared for George during his illness.

Rosary service will be Sunday, May 4, at 8:00 p.m. and funeral mass will be held Monday, May 5, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., both at St. Monica's Catholic Church in Willows. Arrangements are under the direction of F.D. Sweet and Son in Willows. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to, Willows Knights of Columbus, 1129 Wood Street, Willows, CA 95988.
