He was retired as chief environmentalist for the Madison County Health Department after more than 20 years, a Pentecostal, a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a former schoolteacher.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Curry Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Rushing officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.
The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Ilean Holmes of Humboldt; a daughter, Brenda Copeland of Dresden; two sons, Larry Holmes of Lexington and Don Holmes of Jackson; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Ernest Holmes; his parents, Joseph and Lena Holmes; a sister, Bernice Adams; a brother, Herschel Holmes; and a grandson, Jerry Neal Copeland.
Pallbearers will be family members.
