William was born to John & Harriet Bon, on 5-30-1842, at Raymond, Wisconsin (Racine County). At the beginning of the Civil War, he enlisted as a private in Co. B, 8th Wisconsin Infantry, & served until the close of the war.He married Mary Jane Bowles, at Mitchell, Wisc. 7-03-1864.They moved to Jewell County in 1876. On April 13,1880, Mary Jane & William signed a contract with Nannie M. Jobe, to take her infant daughter & raise her as their own.They named her Myrtle L. Bon. William & Janie's house stood across the road south of the Mayview Grocery & Dry Goods store.
